I slept in your
sheltering arms
Oh Sacred Cove
where my great great grandfathers
built a community hall
and my great great grandmothers
built a Community.
Sitting on the shore
Listening to a gentle
wave rocking small
boats against a dock
Watching a momma deer with many little fawns
running across the grass
leaping to keep up with my
private parade
viewing them below the old Yacht Club on the Hill
above
in West Sound, Orcas Island, WA
where my great greats lived for at least the
first decades of the 20th Century.
Great great grandma Momma Barker
was Postmaster in Hartshorn, Minnesota
in 1888
Her address was P.O. Box 66 West Sound, Orcas Island, WA
when my mom was born and my grandma sent a postcard there
with her baby picture in 1911.
there is an old picture with the whole family
standing on Lovrick's Beach on Fidalgo Island Anacortes WA
with my Grandpa Guy the young man at the tiller of the sailboat.
2 people in the picture died in 1900, so that sets a date
before then, they had to migrate out West
maybe on the train?
This is my Orcas Island Roots Story
Where Buffalo still grazed as late as 1993
when we held a Grandmother's Gathering
in Moran State Park
Brought the prayers together
to heal and renew
the Sacred Hoop
Connecting all Beings\
manifesting Truth
White Buffalo Calf woman was born
the very next year
and Miracle the White Buffalo Calf
symbol of the Promise
to return and bring world peace
If those who Pray
may be heard today
then sing a New song
of Praise for the One!
